January 27th, 2007The Simpsons is my favourite T.V. show of all time and my mind has a very, very substantial repository of moments from the show. I have just finished watching the movie Predator and it provoked a thought I think I have had before. The ending scene of the episode Boy-Scoutz n the Hood has Ernest Borgnine (as a guest star) attacked by a mysterious creature whilst camping around a fireplace with a group of Junior Campers. The creature is unseen but can be heard to be breathing heavily. This led me to believe that this mystery creature may be a reference to the Predator creature featured in the movie. A Google search returned only this page, on which it is stated “The unseen person or creature at the end that attacks Ernest Borgnine is largely believed to be the Predator owing to the heavy breathing; however, this is unconfirmed”. However several sites, including the Wikipedia entry, suggest that it is Jason from the Friday the 13th series; “The unseen person or creature that attacks Borgnine at the end of the episode is implied to be Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th movies. This is not said in the episode, but it is hinted at since the group is in an abandoned summer camp, like the one in the films and a music very similar to one of the main themes of the series plays when the screen fades to black.” I wonder what the episode writers intended.
